Sharri Markson blasts ‘weak’ political leaders ‘tip-toeing’ around rising hatred
Sky News host Sharri Markson has blasted political leaders for “tip-toeing” around the rising hatred reigniting in the country’s suburbs after a bishop was allegedly stabbed in Western Sydney.
Assyrian religious leader Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel was allegedly stabbed in the face and body as he was delivering a mass, which was being live-streamed online.Ms Markson criticised the Albanese government for doing nothing to stop hate preachers from sharing their views on social media. “Australian values of tolerance, freedom of speech, respect, compassion and equality need to be guarded fiercely and defended vocally,” she said.
“Instead, our leaders over the past six months have been tip-toeing around this, despite knowing that hatred is rising, despite knowing that ancient hatreds from other parts of the world are reigniting here in the suburbs. “Communities, like the persecuted Assyrians, who came here for safety – now allegedly facing violence in a place that should be safe; their sacred place of worship.”
