SheHulk star Jameela Jamil opens up about embracing Titania's influencer accent and behavior in the MCU series. 'We were satirizing the idea of the absolute worst kind of influencer.'
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law star, Jameela Jamil, discusses embracing her character Titania's Los Angeles accent and influencer behavior. The show, based on the popular Marvel Comics character She-Hulk, premiered on Disney+ back in August and explores a different area within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, focusing on law firm GLK&H and their division specializing in cases of superpowered beings.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Fans of the comics are familiar with the character of Mary MacPherran, or Titania, a constant rival of She-Hulk's who seeks fame through the use of her abilities. Following a brief appearance early in the series, Titania, now portrayed as a social media influencer, returned to create problems for Walters in episode 5, titled "Mean, Green, and Straight Poured into These Jeans.
"It’s a very influencer accent. It definitely helped bring her to life. We wanted her to be quite cartoonish in her appearance and in her portrayal. And there’s a lot of brilliant spoof and satire in She-Hulk. So we were satirizing the idea of the absolute worst kind of influencer. What some influencers put out into the world is genuinely a bit evil and the lies they tell and the way they make people feel. So it felt quite fitting to have an influencer play a supervillain.
Jamil also spoke on Titania's ability to get inside Walters' head, calling her character "petty" and adding that she enjoys that quality of hers. Building up to the release of She-Hulk, The Good Place alum had teased that Titania would be an "annoying" villain, but fans of the show appear to enjoy her thus far.
Jameela Jamil continues to keep audiences excited for more Titania through her own social media posts, and knowing she will return in future She-Hulk: Attorney at Law episodes, it will be interesting to see what tactics she tries next. While Titania may be portrayed differently from the comics, her powers remain the same, so viewers should expect more fighting between her and the titular heroine.
