Jenny Morrison doesn't have a stylist and buys her own clothes. But there's an element of the somewhat mysterious art of 'fashion diplomacy' at play auspol

It was when Jenny Morrison wore a floral, balloon-sleeved Ginger & Smart dress to the races and then wore it again to meet the Queen, that label co-founder Genevieve Smart really took notice.

While Smart says it’s difficult to track just how much is due to Morrison, undoubtedly she’s helping to move stock. “She’s natural and authentic, I think that’s why it’s worked so well. She was a fan of the brand [before her husband became PM] and I think she knows it suits her."Morrison’s recent fashion moments have earned her headlines including words and phrases such as “stuns” and “first lady of fashion” and “dazzling”.

Stylist and style consultant Claire Fabb of Style by Yellow Button isn’t surprised by Morrison’s fashion influence and admires that she’s championing Australian brands. “She’s approachable and a real woman that we can all relate to ... Mrs Morrison is selecting outfits she likes and that suit her and she’s got a great eye,” she says.

Jenny Morrison wearing sequinned Carla Zampatti during the Prime Minister's state visit to the USA in September.Other than former foreign affairs minister Julie Bishop, whose enthusiasm for stylish ensembles earned her the slightly snide title “Minister for Fashion”, and Paul Keating and his Zegna suits, there hasn’t been an awful lot to get excited about it when it comes to Australian politicians and fashion.
