'The time I met the Queen was at the Diamond Jubilee in 2012. I said to her, “I’m a Taurus,” to which she replied, “I know. We both are.” I didn’t know she knew that!' says StevieWonder.

In the 20 years that I designed clothes for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, it usually began with a loose brief. Rather than use fabrics from my collection, I’d go to a separate source that guaranteed no one else would have them. I’d lock myself in my room with a huge amount of samples, and sketch and sketch – normally two or three ideas for each fabric. I’d send them off to Angela Kelly, the Queen’s dresser, who’d select what she liked with notes. Then I’d create the dresses for fittings.

From me, she’d like a bold print that was actually quite youthful: frequently floral, sometimes geometric, and often quite outrageous. We’d tone them down with a block-colour coat, but while the overall appearance was one single colour, there’d be something beautiful underneath, sometimes in the coat’s lining too, for when she did occasionally take it off or the wind flipped it up.
