Hundreds of Woolworths workers have walked off the job on Thursday morning in a major push for better pay and conditions.

Scores of Woolworths workers at distribution centres across the country have gone on an indefinite strike on Thursday over demands for better pay and safer warehouses.

“Why they are walking off the job is, they want to reach an agreement with Woolworths on fair terms and the key issues for the people behind me is obviously getting a fair wage increase in what is a cost-of-living crisis for everybody,” he told ABC News Breakfast on Thursday. Mr Mujkic claimed the strike will have a large impact across Australia’s east coast and may mean customers will have to contend with emptier shelves than usual.A spokesperson from Primary Connect, Woolworths’ supply chain platform, said no immediate impacts to stores are expected and that it was “deeply committed” to reaching an agreement.
