Traditional owners say developers did not consult them about a $450 million development set to transform the foreshore at Hervey Bay.

Traditional owners say developers did not consult them about the now-approved resort development at Hervey Bay .

In celebrating its approval, celebrity spokesperson Jamie Durie told the media the developers had "worked very closely with Indigenous communities".BNTAC is the prescribed body corporate representing the Butchulla people on cultural heritage matters on land, including where the resort will be developed."At an absolute minimum, I would have thought representatives … would have consulted the traditional owners," she said.

"There is a tension between having … rules in place that people can rely upon that are formed through community consultation and a proper process, and then something comes along that is way outside of those rules."The economic benefits forecast for the region by Sunny Beach Land are significant. "Greater accommodation options have an incredibly positive impact on tourism, particularly in regional areas," Mr Healy said.

The developer has a statutory applicant appeal period lasting until August 28 to appeal or make further representations to Fraser Coast Regional Council.
