“Based upon the claims of migrants being transported from Bexar County under false pretenses, we are investigating this case as possible unlawful restraint,” Salazar said in a statement Thursday.
Massachusetts officials were caught off guard, setting off a scramble to house and feed the migrants. Many of the Venezuelans have said they were deceived about the destination and purpose of the flights. LULAC has said it believes Huerta, 43, worked for Vertol Systems after she was discharged from the Army in August. The civil rights group is offering a $10,000 reward for the whereabouts of Huerta, who sold her Tampa, Fla., condo a week after the flights.
