Sky News host Chris Smith says former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe’s accomplishments were “extraordinary,” and he had “so much more to offer the world”.
“He had the courage and conviction to convince his people to face the past and create a new future, and he made both happen,” Mr Smith said.“By laying a wreath at Pearl Harbour beside Barack Obama and becoming the first Japanese leader to visit Darwin, which, of course, was heavily bombed by Japan in 1942 and part of ‘43.
“And like the best of right-wing western leaders throughout history, he knew his country needed to become an economic power and global player. “What a terrible, senseless end for a man who rebuilt Japan in so many ways and could have easily contributed much more on the global stage.”
