A bulk carrier off Perth's coast has been turned away from WA and is sailing back to Indonesia after one of its crew members tested positive for COVID-19.

WA Premier Mark McGowan confirmed the MV Emerald Indah had now set sail away from Kwinana after State Emergency Coordinator Chris Dawson signed directions on Monday to prevent the vessel from entering the state. He said 51 people were in the Emergency Department at the time — 25 staff, 18 patients and eight visitors."The Chief Health Officer's advice is any risk to the community is miniscule," he said.
