New South Wales Police have seized more than 50 weapons, including a gun, in a state-wide operation aimed at tackling rising knife crime and anti-social behaviour.

Operation Foil started on April 11 involving some 800 officers who were deployed from every command to conduct random searches in the public and of commuters.

Authorities found the pistol allegedly in his bag. Further checks revealed the man was prohibited from acquiring, possessing or using a firearm. He was later charged.During a search they allegedly found two knives and a large amount of drugs. Detective Superintendent Darren Newman said Operation Foil was created to remove weapons from the streets in hopes of making communities safer.
