San Antonio police are involved in a standoff with a shooting suspect after he barricaded himself inside a South Side home late Thursday night.

The incident began around 9:45 p.m. at a home near the intersection of West Harlan Avenue and Ferndale Street, not far from both Interstate 35 and West Southcross.

According to police, officers went to the shooting suspects’ home and are currently trying to get him to come out of the house. He has refused to do so. Negotiators are on scene trying to communicate with the suspect. SWAT is present as well as officers in a police mobile command center. SAPD said they are presently using a drone because the Eagle helicopter has been grounded due to the wet weather.

Authorities say they have been negotiating with the person for several hours. According to police, it is still an active scene.Police say at this time they are only releasing preliminary information as the standoff is ongoing. KSAT will update the story as more information becomes available.
