Shop bosses welcome lifting of Friars Vennel barriers

The top of the popular street had been cordoned off for almost four weeks while workmen made the area safe above the charity store Cancer Research UK and traffic was diverted

Shop bosses have welcomed the lifting of barriers to Friars Vennel in Dumfries while repairs are carried out to a gable end and roof.

She said: “It’s made a massive difference. The street was opened again last Thursday night at about 5pm after the top was closed after we had three and a half weeks of no business, all of us here. “I lost about £1,000 in those four weeks so hopefully that portal people are talking about with the council for compensation will help with the loss of earnings.”
