About 80 employees will lose their jobs in Williamsport due to the reorganization of the U.S. subsidiary of a Chinese company.
WILLIAMSPORT – A U.S. subsidiary of a Chinese company has confirmed it is moving core production of Shop-Vac vacuums overseas beginning at the end of April.
“Although we have seen some successes as a result of our efforts to date, this current measure has been dictated by the competitive cost environment and macroeconomic conditions. The move by Shop-Vac USA is part of a reorganization of its American operations that will impact approximately 80 employees in Williamsport, its president Gary DuBoff said Monday. Employees were told Friday.
It purchased SK Tools in July 2021, from Ideal Industries Inc. and moved production from Sycamore, Illinois, to Williamsport. SK makes more than 3,000 products. One of those workers, Candice Gair, sued Shop-Vac in U.S. Middle District Court, accusing it of violating the WARN Act. She later added GreatStar as a defendant.to obtain for all those who lost their jobs the unpaid wages, benefits, bonuses, accrued vacation pay and pension contributions for the 60 days required under the act.
