A senior Labor MP has declared Australians earning more than $100,000 a year are doing it tough amid reported division in the government over the future of stage three tax cuts.
Mr Shorten fiercely opposed the proposed cuts when he was opposition leader, while Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has appeared to support the move by acknowledging middle income earners are doing it tough.
The issue of wages and how to stimulate the Australian economy was heavily debated on Thursday during Senate discussions on the Albanese Government's industrial relations reforms. NDIS Minister Bill Shorten has argued that Australians on $150,000 a year are struggling to keep up with cost of living. Earlier this month Treasurer Jim Chalmers said he wouldn’t rule out making changes to the tax cuts as he looked at the “sustainability of the budget broadly”.
