As millions more people become eligible for a fourth COVID vaccine dose, you might be asking whether you should book in for it or wait for Omicron-specific vaccines still being developed.

The ATAGI advice is that those already eligible, including people aged over 65, remain at high risk of severe disease and death from COVID-19.

He says while there isn't an Omicron-specific vaccine available yet, the existing vaccines still offer a good level of protection. Dr James Trauer says getting a fourth COVID vaccine dose is about protecting yourself, rather than stopping transmission."These vaccines don't control transmission the way they used to so it's more about your own assessment of risk and protecting yourself against the worst outcomes of the virus," he said.
