‘For the homeless, ShowerBox has become an icon and something to look forward to, also motivation.' Every Saturday, minutes away from Tottenham Court Road station, there is always a lengthy queue for a pop-up shower.
This is exactly what Sarah Lamptey, a former volunteer for homeless organisations, hoped to achieve when she set up ShowerBox in the autumn of 2018.
She said: ‘With everything that is going on right now, the cost-of-living and Covid, the demand is growing at all times.Sarah Lamptey converted the old caravan into a shower unit with the help of volunteers Sarah stressed that this is one the main factor behind the charity’s popularity, and around 95% of people they see every Saturday are repeat users, of which 90% are men.
‘I cannot believe that during Covid signs were put up – that are also still there – in many parks saying that the park is not a toilet, as if a human being would choose to go to the toilet in a park if they had another option.
