The series follows Kwabena, an aspiring filmmaker stuck in a recruitment job that he seems to have no hope of escaping from. However, he soon takes the first steps needed to achieve his dream by creating a television series.
Dreaming Whilst Black is a BAFTA award-winning comedy that began life as a web series before becoming a television pilot in 2021. A full-fledged series finally debuted on BBC Three in July of 2023, co-produced by A24 and Big Deal Films. Showtime now has the honor of being its linear home in the US, but creator and star Adjani Salmon has already received plenty of critical acclaim for it.

Ali Hughes and Yemi Oyefuwa co-wrote the series with Salmon. Dreaming Whilst Black is directed by Jermain Julien, Koby Adom, Sebastian Thiel, and Joelle Mae David, with Nicola Gregory serving as producer.
Dreaming Whilst Black debuts on Paramount+ with SHOWTIME on September 8 before making its linear debut on September 10 at 10pm ET/PT on SHOWTIME.
