A Melbourne mum has been left “terribly upset” after finding an offensive hate symbol at a park, amid a surge in the behaviour.

A Jewish woman found the symbol at Harleston Park in Elsternwick while walking with her two-year-old son, and reported it to the Anti-Defamation Commission.

Elsternwick, where the symbol was found, is in the City of Glen Eira – home to Australia’s largest Jewish community. “Imagine how upset a Holocaust survivor, taking their grandchild to this park, would be when confronted with this symbol of genocide, which they probably thought they would never see in their own lifetime.“This is not just vandalism — it is an attack on all of us and on our core values, and I share the outrage that many Australians will feel right now.
