Earlier on Thursday, local time, a close political ally, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, quoting Dr Zangrillo, reported Mr Berlusconi was alert and in stable condition. Without citing any sources, Italian news agency ANSA reported Mr Berlusconi had received chemotherapy.
