A family of four could slash the price of their summer holiday
Many Brits will already be planning their summer getaways, but travel expert Simon Calder has shared a useful tip to know when booking your trip, which could help holidaymakers save up to £1,000 for a family of four. Simon appeared on ITV’s Lorraine where he issued guidance as part of his summer holiday clinic.
He shared one way in which families could shave off hundreds of pounds from their holiday by looking at where they book their flights and holiday from. The travel expert told Lorraine that most families in England will be “paying a fortune” as they will be looking for a holiday in the first few weeks of summer, Birmingham Live reports.
Instead Simon urged travellers to book flights or a holiday from an airport which hasn’t broken up for the holidays yet, such as Scotland. He first shared advice for those who live in Scotland and are looking for a cheaper getaway, advising them to travel from England instead.Simon said: "Head over the border to Newcastle or Manchester and get some bargains out there. I actually priced one up - a standard package holiday to the Balearics will save you £1000 for a family-of-four.
The beginning of the school holidays in England and Wales is always more expensive. However, going away in the last week of August can offer much better value, thanks in part to schoolchildren in many countries on the continent – and those in Scotland – having already returned to school.
