BREAKING: Former police chief commissioner Simon Overland has been sacked as the chief executive of Whittlesea council. He has been under fire for his involvement in the Informer 3838, or Lawyer X, scandal.

Former police chief commissioner Simon Overland has been sacked as the chief executive of Whittlesea council.

"We have an extraordinary situation where ... we've had three CEOs in three years, this city is never going to attract new talent, who would want to work in the City of Whittlesea?" One of the councillors who boycotted the meeting last year, Caz Monteleone, said on Wednesday he would not comment on Mr Overland's departure from the council but said current mayor Emilia Lisa Sterjova was "doing a terrific job" and had the "full support of majority councillors".

"The situation has been very difficult now for two years but with recent changes in council, I now regrettably find my own health and safety significantly affected and, accordingly, as of now, I am taking related leave."
