Man United manager Erik ten Hag is on thin ice but the candidates to replace him at Old Trafford each have their own pitfalls and risks attached
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has a big decision to make once the FA Cup final between Manchester United and Manchester City culminates at the back end of this month.
In the case of Southgate, who is well thought of by INEOS, he will likely only depart the England national team once the Three Lions' European Championship campaign is over. By which point, it could be too late for United to appoint him and build a squad in time for next season. So, this leaves three options who could realistically be appointed, at this stage - Thomas Tuchel, Thomas Frank and Graham Potter. However, each one of these candidates will split opinion as much as keeping Ten Hag.
A similar argument can be made for Potter too. While he is well-liked by INEOS, the underlying worry is how the Chelsea job ended in disaster for him.
