Two organizations must co-apply to provide services that benefit Skokie residents. One of the co-applicants must be a nonprofit organization, a government or social service agency, or theoretically a business, said Szczepaniak.

Szcepaniak says most of the funding the Skokie Community Foundation gets is from individuals who give on a recurring basis and the Village of Skokie, but they only receive a “relatively small percentage” of their dollars from the business community. He says this year they received $5,000 from First Bank of Chicago.

“If we could find four more businesses to give us $5,000, we could double the amount we give in grants from $25,000 to $50,000 a year, which would be of course amazing,” said Szczepaniak. “And the more money we can give out in grants, the more success stories we have to let people know the good work that the Skokie Community Foundation is doing,” he added.
