Having an entire bed to yourself? Now that is my idea of romance (Photo: Steve Morgan) Picture the scene: its 2am in the morning and I am lying in bed, wide awake. The man beside me is sleeping like a baby, and why wouldn’t he be? He has the podcast he “needs” to fall sleep playing loudly beside the bed. The room is suffocatingly warm because he “just can’t sleep with the window open”, and sleep he most certainly has, because he is now snoring like a water buffalo.
I try to roll him over to stop the noise, which I succeed in doing, but he takes the duvet with him. I spend the remainder of the night burying my head into the pillows to block out Joe Rogan ranting about bears, only to throw them off again when my head starts to overheat. I don’t get a wink of sleep. Around 7am he stirs and reaches for an embrace.! It’s awful. Why on earth have we made sleeping together in the same bed a measure of a healthy relationship?
