Not the kind of place where the neighbours will be a problem 🧐
A whole swathe of Lake District land has gone up for sale along with a property dubbed ‘the most remote home in the country.'
The isolated property, in an extremely remote spot, can only be accessed by foot or by 4 x4 vehicle. Its ground floor features a lounge, porch, washroom, shower, toilet, kitchen dining area, store room, reception room, living room and store rooms. The property is powered by the sun, watered by natural spring and ingeniously heated by sheep's wool insulation and woodburning stoves.
It’s England's most secluded property, and although it may be off-grid, it’s perched on the 90-mile Cumbrian Way and overlooking Bassenthwaite, offering the cosiest of warm welcomes to visitors to the dramatic northern fells. The remote dwelling first went on the market for £1.5million last year via Mitchell's Land Agency, but without the slice of 3,000 acres.
A 19th Century shooting lodge, Skiddaw House has been used over the years as a gamekeeper’s lodge, shooting cabin, shepherds dwelling, schools field centre, ramblers bothy and currently a youth hostel. Poets John Keats and Samuel Taylor Coleridge and writer Hugh Walpole were hugely influenced by the surrounding starkly magnificent countryside.
