Multiple SMART drumlines have been installed across Sydney beaches after a swimmer was fatally mauled by a shark off Little Bay yesterday.Sydney's first fatally in almost sixty years"Based on footage provided by the public, including eyewitness accounts, DPI shark biologists believe that a white shark, at least 3 metres in length, was likely responsible," the DPI said in a statement.DPI have confirmed six SMART drumlines have been installed from Little Bay Beach to Long Bay.
New South Wales Police said this morning that closures would extend from Sutherland Shire to Randwick beaches of Coogee, Clovelly, South Maroubra, Little Bay, Malabar, Long Bay and La Perouse as well as Waverley beaches of Bronte, Tamarama and Bondi. The search is also continuing for the remains of the victim, with divers expected to be brought in later today."We have chop out here, it drops off quickly, it adds to the complexity of ," Shaun Daw from Westpac Rescue Helicopter toldSwimmers have been asked not to enter the water.Beaches from Cronulla council to Bondi have been closed following the fatal attack.It is not known how long the beaches will remain shut, but a spokesperson for Waverley Council told 9news.com.
Mr Linto claimed he saw a 4.5-metre great white shark attack the swimmer, who is yet to be identified."Unfortunately, this person had suffered catastrophic injuries as a result of the attack and there was nothing paramedics could do when we arrived on scene," he said.
