The original movie, which followed an ER therapist who begins to be haunted by an entity that takes the form of various people smiling eerily, was the feature directorial debut of Parker Finn and premiered on September 30, 2022.

Per Variety, the Smile 2 release date has now been officially set for October 18, 2024. This news comes just slightly under a year after the original movie's release. At the time of writing, only one other movie has been given an October 2024 release date. That would be Joker: Folie à Deux on October 4, at a far enough remove that it likely won't give the horror sequel much box office competition.
