SMU senior wide receiver Rashee Rice, the newly-shrined school record-holder for receiving yards in a season, will miss the New Mexico Bowl, ending his SMU...
In addition, senior offensive lineman Jaylon Thomas and sophomore wide receiver Dylan Goffney — the team’s third-leading receiver — will also miss the New Mexico Bowl on Dec. 17. Thomas, impressively, started at least one game at all five offensive line positions this season. Lashlee said that Thomas had shoulder surgery to repair an injury he’s been dealing with throughout the season.
Lashlee said Rice doesn’t require surgery and expects he’ll be fully healed from the broken toe in a month’s time. For most of his career at SMU, Rice was surrounded by other leading receivers. James Proche, Reggie Roberson Jr., Danny Gray and tight end Kylen Granson were all SMU receiving targets that ended up in the NFL. Before this season, Rice said he was next in line to be NFL bound.
