The latest snowstorm to hit Utah is headed out of the state, and cold temperatures are moving in — possibly record-breaking cold.

By Scott D. Pierceis forecasting an overnight low of 15 on Wednesday in Salt Lake City, which would tie a record set in 2002. And the forecast for Thursday includes an overnight low of 12, which would break the record of 13 set in 1964.has issued a backcountry avalanche warning that will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday. Avalanche danger is high in northern Utah mountains, including the Wasatch Range north of Interstate-80, the western Uintas and the Bear River Range.

Winter weather advisories remain in effect until 5 p.m. on Wednesday in Salt Lake Valley, Utah Valley, Tooele Valley and Rush Valley, with additional accumulations of 1-3 inches possible As of Wednesday morning, snow totals from the storm varied widely — downtown Salt Lake City got 4 inches; the upper Avenues got 7.5 inches, and Alta and the Logan Mountains got 14 inches.
