Thirty-three people stranded at the Tan Hill Inn, Britain's highest pub, were finally able to escape after four days of being snowed in. A tractor cleared a path, allowing guests to depart in a convoy of vehicles. Before leaving, they enjoyed a farewell party filled with dancing and tender moments.

The swift exit came after a lively and emotional evening when, on Monday night, a goodbye party of sorts was thrown in the Tan Hill Inn’s function room, known as the barn. The Australians Naomi and Paul Wright with their grown-up son Declan, had spent a large part of the previous evening talking to breakfast television presenters in their home country, where it is the middle of summer.
