An SNP MSP has urged Humza Yousaf to look at scrapping the powersharing deal with the Greens following its hammering at the Rutherglen by-election.

The scale of the defeat stunned senior SNP figures and has piled pressure on Humza Yousaf ahead of the party's conference in Aberdeen next week. "Independence is at the very heart of what the SNP are about," she said. "For me it goes right back to the concept of growing the economy, creating wealth, creating jobs."

It comes as a former senior strategist for the SNP claimed "Scotland progresses when there is a Labour government at Westminster".The Supreme Court decision, the departure of Nicola Sturgeon, and this by-election result - they all point to a direction that we're entering a new phase in Scottish politics."
