What we’re finding all throughout college football this week is an enhanced state of coaching paranoia.
All hope for some sort of uniform common sense is not lost — at least in the Big Ten. Starting this season, every team will be required to submit an availability report that will be released two hours before kickoff. Specific injuries will not be noted, which is a detail that helped several coaches get on board with the new mandate.
But even this new conference-wide policy speaks to one of the biggest issues in this sport. So much of what drives reporters and fans crazy is how inconsistent teams and conferences are when it comes to acknowledging things like injuries, depth charts and access. The“To be honest with you, I don’t really care what the rules are, just as long as everybody’s following the same rules,” Franklin said.
