With so much down-ness everywhere, I feel it’s my job, nay my duty, nay my quest, nay my moral obligation, nay my Supreme God-Given Holy Destiny ... sorry, nays get out of hand really fast, actually it’s just my job ... to share a few of the positive things I’ve discovered during this tough, tricky time.
Stage 1: get an expired packet of yeast that you have no memory of buying but you somehow find in your cupboard. I’ve learned how to make pizza dough. Yeah it’s simple and fun. Mix the expired yeast with warm water, mix the water with some flour, knead it into a ball and let it rest until it doubles in size, which it won’t, then chuck it in the kitchen compost and start again.
Apparently pangolins were being sold as bushmeat in Chinese markets and that’s how this whole thing started, so now pangolin-eating has been banned and these beautiful animals can go back to living happy, peaceful lives, just foraging for termites and having sex with bats.I finally understand how to read a graph.
I have started appreciating the best in people. Family members have grown closer, old friends are reconnecting, neighbours smile at me when they cross the road to keep their distance . Even my newspaper delivery guy is being nice: normally he hides my newspaper under the car, or on the roof, or on a neighbour's roof – he spends hours finding new hiding spots, he’s very creative, I think he brings a ladder.
