After a weekend of closed beaches due to the devastating volcanic eruption in Tonga, Sydneysiders flocked to the sea on Monday as temperatures in parts of the city nudged 30 degrees.

“It may seem strange given we’re only a couple of hours from Sydney, but both lockdowns saw us unable to visit. It’s so beautiful, and we’ve had great weather, so we’re feeling very lucky,” she said. “We can’t even look at accommodation yet as we’re not sure whether we’ll have to go into hotel quarantine or if they’ll change plans at the last minute, it’s incredibly stressful.”
