At Molly Goddard’s AW24 show, models took on the bashful spirit of a child ransacking their mother’s wardrobe.
Amidst the fashion-famous – and more legitimately famous – guests seated at Molly Goddard’s autumn/winter 2024 show this afternoon were a sprinkling of brides-to-be who had commissioned the label to design their wedding gowns. “They’re our biggest fans,” the designer said during a preview of this season’s collection in her light-dappled Bethnal Green studio earlier this week. “And I don’t want this to sound impersonal, but our business relies on those clients.
” The designer says this afternoon’s venue in Primrose Hill was chosen for no reason other than its “niceness”, but even a cursory google will reveal that Cecil Sharp House was built in 1929 as the headquarters for the English Folk Dance and Song Society. It proved a perfect backdrop for a collection that made explicit references to Westerns via line dance knits, gingham saloon dresses, and trompe-l’œil cowboy flats.
