Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti has made significant changes to his starting lineup for the upcoming friendly against the Socceroos at Lang Park, while the Socceroos remain unchanged. Ancelotti aims to rebuild the national team and has picked a largely experimental squad with many new and young players.
Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti has made seven changes to his starting lineup for the upcoming friendly against the Socceroos at Lang Park. The Socceroos, however, are unchanged from Friday night's 1-1 draw in Townsville.
Australia have little time for experimentation in the lead-up to the Asian Cup, which starts in January. In a significant move, Ancelotti has promoted Rayan, the Bournemouth forward whose last-gasp header in Townsville saved the Selecao from embarrassment. Goalkeeper Otavio and midfielder Gabriel Bontempo have been named for their international debuts. Ancelotti has a clear plan to rebuild the national team, emphasizing patience from the public is essential.
Ancelotti Defends Brazil Performance Criticism
He defended the team's performance in Townsville, stating they did well on a poor pitch and that the draw was deserved. Brazil have only once progressed past the quarter-finals of a World Cup since winning it in 2002, a record that will not escape criticism. The Socceroos aim to push the envelope in tonight's Brazil rematch, having changed their outlook with a number of players moving to Europe's biggest leagues. Alessandro Circati said, 'For sure, something's changed.
We've all gone to bigger clubs, so it's normal that you know you're a bit more confident.
' Circati also detailed a significant mindset shift within the team, saying they are now encouraged to 'play out a little bit more, be a bit more brave, breaking their press, and you know maybe risking a pass more instead of just playing that safe option. ' Coach Tony Popovic has stuck with the same starting XI as last time out.
Australia Socceroos Mindset Shift Europe
Carlo Ancelotti has expressed confidence in his team, stating that criticism from the public has zero effect on his plans. Ancelotti has picked a largely experimental squad, with 17 of the 26-player squad having 10 or fewer caps as well as 10 uncapped players.
The pitch at Lang Park has its own set of challenges, with a problematic patch at the Milton Road end of the ground and a bit of a worry based on what players told me after the last Wallabies game. Despite the setbacks, Brazil remain favorites to win, with a new-look team set to take on the Socceroos in a highly anticipated match.
