Sunday’s preseason trip to Houston should be a learning experience for Spurs newbies,...
San Antonio Spurs forward Zach Collins poses for photos during the team's NBA media day, Monday, Sept. 26, 2022, in San Antonio. HOUSTON — Zach Collins will never forget his first NBA road trip. Nor will he forget the bill that came with it.
The bevy of rookies on this year’s Spurs squad can only hope their first foray into the world of NBA travel goes off without a hitch. Wesley is one of three 2022 first-round picks who will make their Spurs debuts in Houston, joining ninth overall pick Jeremy Sochan and 20th pick Malaki Branham. If the past week has felt like a whirlwind for the Spurs’ rookie crop, that’s because it is. The team will hit the floor in Houston after only four full practice sessions.“It’s been a lot of learning,” Branham said. “Fast-paced, but it’s been good. We’re all fast learners so I feel like we all kind of get it.
The more experienced Spurs players are interested to see how the rookies react when thrown into the fire of competition Sunday. With his English accent, Polish roots and multi-colored hairdo, Sochan might also remain a mystery to teammates who have spent the summer practicing with him.
