Former GWS Giants player Cooper Hamilton, known for his social media presence, has signed with Carlton's VFL team.
Former GWS Giants winger and social media sensation Cooper Hamilton has signed with Carlton ’s VFL team for 2025. Hamilton played eight AFL games across three years on the Giants’ list before being axed earlier this year. But it was for his presence on the Giants’ widely celebrated social media accounts for which the 21-year-old became best known.
Despite only a handful of senior games, plus a navicular injury that derailed most of his second and third years, Hamilton was often used in social media content to deliver messages and creative ideas. On the field, he is a prolific runner with an impressive athletic profile. Carlton VFL coach Luke Power said the club is excited to have him. “Having been on an AFL list, Cooper brings with him great knowledge of not only high performance and training standards, but also the VFL competition,” VFL Senior Coach Luke Power said. “Cooper has gone to work incredibly hard to get his body right leading into 2025, and we’re really excited about what he can do for us. We know how crucial tackle pressure and contest are for us as a team, and that’s what he’s all about. “His ability to cover the ground will add to our offensive and defensive game. “He’s fit in seamlessly so far with our team and we can’t wait to see him in action with our players on the field. “Cooper isn’t an unfamiliar face at IKON Park: he has an existing family connection to Carlton with his brother Hugh, a much-loved player of our VFL team, that’s been a constant face around the club. “Despite his injuries, Cooper’s growth as a young talent across the past few seasons has been impressive, and we’re looking forward to seeing how he’ll contribute to the team in the upcoming season.” Hamilton’s best performance at AFL level came in Round 2 of 2023 when he amassed 19 disposals and a goal against West Coast. He strung together four games in a row during a stretch between rounds two and five that year before the foot injury ruled him out for the remainder of the season
