Police in Texas have arrested the son of a co-founder of the Buc-ee’s convenience store franchise and charged him with covertly recording people using bathrooms, taking showers and having sex at properties he or his family own.
Mitchell Wasek, 28, faces more than two dozen counts of felony invasive visual recordings in Travis County, according to Austin NBC affiliate KXAN. He posted a $10,000 bond shortly after he was taken into custody on Tuesday. According to court records obtained by KXAN, a complaint against Mr. Wasek was first filed in May, when a group of people staying at a house on Lake Travis noticed a hidden camera being charged in an outlet.
They looked through the camera’s memory and found multiple videos of themselves and other people in the lake house’s bathrooms and bedrooms. They also found similar videos of people staying at Mr. Wasek’s apartment in Dallas. Authorities counted 68 videos containing at least 13 males and females who were recorded “using toilets, showering, changing clothes, and/or having sex,” according to court documents.Police said the videos were taken as early as 2021 and included footage from an Austin condo and a Colorado vacation home owned by Mr. Wasek’s parents.
