Sonic 3 could bring in even more characters and lore from the video game. Director Jeff Fowler says he wants to 'take advantage of the 30 years of characters and stories' when it comes to building out the franchise.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 star Ben Schwartz is hinting at the film series' future and teasing that Sonic 3 may already be in the works. The action-adventure comedy, based on Sega's widely popular video game franchise of the same name, serves as a sequel to 2020's Sonic the Hedgehog, a commercial success that received largely positive reactions from fans of its source material.
Prior to the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sega CEO Haruki Satomi announced that the corporation would invest in the live-action film franchise, confirming the development of a third movie in addition to a Paramount+ television series centered around the character of Knuckles. With the success of the first film, and now new content to be expected, Paramount Pictures appears to have launched its own cinematic universe with Sonic the Hedgehog. Producer Neal H.
While the Sonic movies might not follow the games, Fowler and those involved have combined new and familiar elements that fans of the source material can appreciate. Fowler has described the filmmaking process as a"melting pot" because there is so much inspiration to pull from. The director has even said that if features from one of the games do not get used for a specific project, that the possibility still exists for them to be incorporated into another.
It will be interesting to see if Fowler uses pieces of the Sonic 2 video game in the third film, and how fans will react to all of the upcoming content. It will also be interesting to see if future Sonic movies include Shadow, although when that could happen remains unclear.
