Health officials in Sonoma County are sounding the alarm to the community about the ongoing monkeypox outbreak.
On Friday, Sonoma County Department of Public Health in a letter said there are 17 confirmed cases of the infectious disease and that the increase in numbers from last week suggests an "accelerating spread." declaration for the state of California by Gov.
"Public health officials at all levels are working to distribute the Jynneos vaccine to limit the spread from infectious individuals to others. Unfortunately, manufacturers have not produced vaccine supplies sufficient to meet the demand," the health officials letter read. In Sonoma County the vaccine is being supplied to the most at-risk populations; including those who have been exposed to someone with monkeypox or have a higher risk of being exposed to the virus. Health officials advise preventative measures in order to reduce risk for transmission amongst at-risk populations.
