Seven former players, including Phil Krakouer, launch a class action against the AFL for failing to protect players from racial abuse
Managing principal of Margalit Injury Lawyers, Michel Margalit, who is acting on behalf of the players, said the consequences have been extreme.
"For too long racial vilification has been swept under the carpet and there has been this overwhelming culture within the AFL of silence.Krakouer said he wanted to ensure football was better for current and future players."The AFL had the power to stop it, and they have the power to stop it [from] ever happening again.
Ms Margalit said it was not just an historical issue and reports of racism were still surfacing, indicating more needed to be done to make football safer."In recent years, we’ve heard from players who say the AFL has not been a safe work place for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders," she said.
