Opinion: Sorry to bang on, but we’re doing sex ed all wrong | Katrina Marson
In the past decade, I have spoken to hundreds of university students about consent, sexual wellbeing and ethical behaviour, alongside my colleague and founder of #LetHerSpeak Nina Funnell. We ask them what it means to have a positive sexual experience.
Unfortunately, many young Australians in that statistic will have had little more in the way of sex-ed than condoms on bananas and “no means no”, for the story of sex-ed in this country is a patchy and inconsistent one. Comprehensive relationships and sexuality education is holistic, going further than risk avoidance and the legal definition of consent. Comprehensive relationships and sexuality education equips young people with the knowledge, information and skills they need to safeguard their own, and each other’s, sexual wellbeing when they get to that stage of their life.
