After a two-week manhunt, police have arrested Thabo Bester, known as the 'Facebook Rapist', who had fled prison.

A South African convicted murderer who faked his death to escape from prison has been arrested in Tanzania following a two-week manhunt.Thabo Bester was serving life imprisonment when it was reported May 2022 he died in a fire in his cellSouth African officials went to Tanzania on Sunday to begin to extradite Thabo Bester, 35, dubbed the "Facebook Rapist" as he used the social media platform to lure at least two women he was convicted of raping.

Two weeks ago police said they were chasing Bester and last week they raided a luxurious home he was believed to have been renting in a posh Johannesburg suburb. They were found with several fake passports which were unstamped at the time of their arrest, about 10 kilometres from the Kenyan border.
