South Alabama continues to experiment with several different combinations on the offensive line, but one player who appears to have made a move since camp opened is senior tackle P.J. Mixon.

Aug. 11, 2022, 12:02 p.m.

South Alabama offensive lineman PJ Mixon, left, and the Jaguars open fall camp Friday, August 5, 2022, in Mobile, Ala. “He is a tremendous athlete. He’s done a tremendous job of gaining weight. He came way too light, around 255 pounds. He’s in a really good position right now. He’s at about 289 right now, and we probably are going to add another five, eight pounds on him between now and game day. But he’s in a good spot.”

But Jaguars defensive tackle Gi’Narious Johnson on Wednesday offered up what is perhaps a more locally appropriate moniker, particularly at this stormy time of year. Johnson said the South Alabama defense might best be called the “Hurricane Jags.”
