South Australia has moved into a week-long lockdown as authorities scramble to contain an outbreak of the Delta coronavirus variant.
The lockdown has raised concerns for workers who could lose pay with the federal government late on Tuesday declaring metropolitan Adelaide a coronavirus hotspot to allow for payments of up to $600 for people who lose work this week.
Business SA Chief Executive Martin Haese said business owners were shattered but had been assured help was on the way. Chief Public Health Officer Nicola Spurrier said the number of sites would increase on Tuesday as she urged everyone to stay home.As the number of cases and exposure sites continued to grow, authorities said more testing facilities would open with the first of those a drive-through facility at Ridgehaven, in Adelaide's northeast.
