South Australia has announced new testing and isolation requirements for travellers entering the state from NSW, Victoria and the ACT following concerns over the Omicron variant.
Urgent meetings took place on Saturday morning to discuss enhanced border measures after South Australia recorded about 40 cases following its reopening on November 23.
"We don't know enough about the Omicron variant at this stage so we are being very cautious. We have already increased our requirement for quarantine for international arrivals from seven days up to 14 days and today we put two additional speed bumps in the path of the Omicron variant coming into South Australia.
"In South Australia, those results are being through in a matter of hours, four to five hours, at the moment is the average and we certainly have significant capacity, availability into SA pathology and our private pathology labs in South Australia," Mr Marshall said. Mr Marshall said there will be regular meetings to discuss the current border arrangements and determine if further action will be required. "We are the fastest growing economy in the entire country at the moment so we've got a lot to lose if we get this wrong.
