Police are searching a major South Australian highway for a weapon they believe could be linked to an alleged assault and robbery that killed a 67-year-old man. The local man was found unresponsive with serious head injuries on the Eyre Hwy in Scotdesco in the state’s far west on Saturday, January 20. He died in hospital two months later, leading police to open a major crime investigation.
The Pajero was found abandoned on Fowlers Bay Rd at the junction of the Eyre Hwy. Police allege the man and woman then hitchhiked about 31km from Fowlers Bay Rd to Nundroo. A search for a weapon that may have been used in the alleged robbery began on Tuesday, involving the State Emergency Service and police. Police are also appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have provided transport to the suspects on January 20 to come forward.
