South Australia has recorded 688 new cases of COVID-19 today, and eight people in hospital.
Eight people are in hospital, including a man in his 30s still in intensive care.nearly 50 close contact exposure sites late yesterday
, including at a store at Westfield Marion, one of the state's biggest shopping centres, across three days. Premier Steven Marshall said a sample of the total cases tested showed the majority were of the Omicron variant.
Mr Marshall asked South Australians to "conduct their Christmas celebrations in a COVID-safe way" including holding events outside and adhering to the household cap of 30 people. "We are particularly concerned about the most vulnerable at the moment, especially over the Christmas break," he said.
