Just before midnight on Wednesday, the South Australia n parliament passed a raft of changes to how politics runs in the state. The legislation bans most political donations , capping party spending on election campaigns, and limits third-party group spending. Taxpayers will pay more for politics under the new public funding model. The legislation also allows individuals to accept donations of up to $5,000 and provides an advanced payment for campaign costs.

Early votes will now be counted on election night, a first in the country
